Nothing is more well known around the world than the iconic golden arches of McDonald’s, in fact, it is more recognized than the holy cross. With daily traffic of over 62 million around the world, the popular fast-food chain sells more than 75 hamburgers every second. As nutritious and delicious the company may want it to seem, the truth is that every time you indulge in a fast food meal from Mcdonalds, you are introducing your body to a handful of harmful chemicals.
As fast food has become a convenient way for consumers to feed their cravings for ‘tasty’ food, they are basically trading their health for a quick fix. A countless amount of health eroding chemicals, trans-fats, high levels of sugar, and petrochemicals have been found throughout all fast food products. Trans-fats are popular in fast food meals and have been known to cause artery damage, bad cholesterol, and permanent damage to DNA structure.
Do you like salads, chicken meals, burgers and drinks from fast food establishments? Well, there’s a synthetic chemical for that! Tertiary butyhyldroquinone is a chemical so deadly, that amounts of up to five grams are proven fatal. Even amounts of up to one gram can induce nausea, vomiting, a feeling of suffocation, and possible collapse. But as usual, most consumers continue to purchase these dreadful chemically enhanced ‘food’ products, either due to a state of ignorance, or perhaps indifference.
Acrylamide is a cancer-causing chemical found in many American products, which forms as a result of unknown chemical reactions during high-temperature baking, and frying. While the Environmental Protection Agency allows 0.12 micrograms per serving in water, fast food french fries such as a large fry at McDonald’s contain the highest levels of acrylamide of 72 micrograms per serving. This is 600 times the amount which the EPA legally recommends.
A synthetic chemical, dimethylpolyiloxane is an anti-foaming agent, or silicone which is used and found in a variety of cosmetics, Silly Putty, and also in your chicken nuggets. Speaking of nuggets, Chicken McNuggets are actually ‘mechanically separated meat’ which is made through a mixture of bones and carcasses of leftover chickens and then mixed together in a food processor. This process creates a pink sludge, which is then molded into a nugget shape, breaded, and then fried. While the McDonalds company released a statement negating these assertions. The billion-dollar corporation stated that nuggets made in the U.S are ”made from USDA inspected boneless white meat chicken”. However, a Reddit user who claimed to be a former McDonalds employee told a horrid story about what he witnessed while working there:
” […] I accidentally left a whole bag of about 100 chicken nuggets out on a counter for way too long. They melted. Into a pool of liquid. I never understood why. But they were completely indiscernible as being the nuggets I once knew.”
While McDonald’s may seem to possess this huge reign over the globe as the world’s largest restaurant chain, the truth is that their profits over the past decade have begun to dwindle little by little each year. Whether this is due to a poor economy, or that fellow humans are slowly becoming aware of the fact that the fast food industry is not dedicated to providing healthy food with nutritional value to its customers. Its sole priority like any other business is, yes, you guessed it, profits. What the people have forgotten is that what you spend money on, will continue to exist, it’s referred to as “voting with your dollars”. So if a world filled with poisonous food spewed from McDonald’s is a world that sounds pleasant to you, then carry on. However, as more proceed to eat this sickening provender of poison, rates of cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, and morbid obesity will continue to skyrocket at unprecedented levels.
